It was 1945, when the eyes of the world were facing Europe, following the last months of World War II. These were times of scarce resources and precarious technologies, often inaccessible. That year, Arminio Bühler, a man full of courage and creativity, joined forces with a few partners and started an enterprise to enjoy and market the cowhides.
Overcoming is the key word
The difficulties were many, and the entrepreneur’s mind bustled with plans to overcome the constraints: poor roads, carriage and mule transport, messenger communication on horseback, no source of electric power to move the machinery, and the manpower of Settlers, who needed to be trained in the art of tanning leather.
Passion moves man
The few existing machinery was driven by a gas-fueled motor, drying and stacking were performed manually, tiring and not very productive; Yet the end result was passionate: a piece of handcrafted leather, a matter of a thousand uses in front of the imagination of the professional and the artist. It was the passion for the process and its result that encouraged Mr. Arminio to continue on his journey.
